Guys… there’s no tournament this week.

Let’s try and power through the sadness and put a bow on last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship…

We were treated to a little orange power on Labor Day as Rickie Fowler defeated Henrik Stenson in what turned out to be a two-man show (U. S. A!  U. S. A!  U. S. A!).  Fowler was kind of the forgotten man in DFS.  He was only on 10% of Drive the Green rosters despite having legitimate tournament-winning upside, and he helped golfskv1 take home $145,000 in the DTG.

Rickie Fowler (10.0%) $8,900 – 129.5
Charley Hoffman (4.0%) $7,100 – 105
Matt Kuchar (13.1%) $8,500 – 78
Patrick Reed (7.5%) $7,800 – 92
Henrik Stenson (21.2%) $10,500 – 115
Daniel Summerhays (4.6%) $7,200 – 81

That’s 600.5 points on the full $50,000 spent.  Lots of name brand talent at 13% owned or lower with Fowler, Hoffman, Kuchar, and Reed.  golfskv1 entered this lineup three times in the DTG and took down the top three places.  GG rest of the field.

The DTG-winning lineup came within a mere 20.5 points of the optimal lineup; which looked like this:

Charley Hoffman $ 7,100 – 105
Henrik Stenson $ 10,500 – 115
Jim Furyk $ 9,000 – 85.5
Matt Jones $ 6,700 – 94
Patrick Reed $ 7,800 – 92
Rickie Fowler $ 8,900 – 129.5

Any time you get that close to optimal, you know you had a great lineup and week.

The Expert Consensus put forth a sub-par effort (and not in the good, golf sense).

Highly Touted

D – Phil Mickelson
F – Justin Rose

More Ds and Fs than As and Bs.  Yuck.

As an aside, how low-owned is Spieth going to be in two weeks?  Unless DK drastically reduces his price, the #1 golfer in the world is going to come in at around 10-15%.  That’s going to be such a great opportunity.

The Consensus might have struggled, but a couple of experts had outstanding weeks.  My choice for best of the week is Zachary Thompson of fansided.com.  He didn’t have the highest composite score, but he correctly identified all six golfers found in this week’s optimal lineup.  I’m not sure that’s been done so far.

The best score for the week goes to Jason Sobel of espn.com.  Since being added to the expert list, he has been consistently great; turning in one solid week after the next.  He was one of the few experts on Rickie Fowler, and only one of his six plays missed the cut.  You might want to consider an ESPN Insider subscription solely to gain access to his picks.  Discountmags.com routinely offers two years of ESPN The Magazine for less than $10, and you get Insider access with your subscription.  Just FYI.

What to do with all this free time…  I’m going to use the week off to focus on NFL, and I imagine most of you will be doing the same.  Here’s to hoping one of us can get rich in Week 1!  I’ll be back next week with everything you need to get ready for the BMW Championship.  Until then…

Given fansided guessed more than 1/3 of the field it’s not that impressive.

I tend to agree with you. It’s a double-edged sword, as it’s hard to be really good or really bad when you make that many selections. I picked him as best for the week given he had a top-6 composite score, was one of only three with Fowler, and the only one with all six optimal plays. There are a few sites out there that make 30+ picks a week, but they still don’t hit on the top guys at high clip.

I’m reluctant to give top honors to experts who make less than five or more than 25 picks, but this was a unique situation.

    Appreciate the feedback.
