It’s over. The NFL season flew by and I’d like to thank you all for reading out coverage throughout the season. We had some final shuffling in the overall standings as well as our position-by-position standings. Rotowire couldn’t do enough in Week 17 to hand on to the lead they’d had for the majority of the season. Their slight drop in score coupled with FantasyTeamAdvice not submitting any picks once again ended up giving the title to FTA by .01. It could not have been any closer! We will continue to provide some NFL content over the next couple of weeks but all of that will be ungraded. As always, you can see how all the experts did by checking out NFL Expert Standings.

As a reminder, most of our NFL content will be part of our premium membership. Now is a great time to sign up for our premium content at only $9.99 per month so you are all set for the NFL season! Our premium membership will also get you all of our NBA and PGA content!

Be sure to come back each week for a review of the Industry Consensus picks highlighting the top (and bottom) grades for the week and season from the experts we are tracking. For Week 17 we tracked and graded 19 sets of expert picks including the Industry Consensus list.

On to the Week 17 grades, class is in session!

Consensus Recap – Week 17

The Consensus provided fifty-seven total picks in Week 17 for a 12th place finish and a Daily Overlay score of 2.81. Seventeen of those picks finished with a failing grade while eight had “A+” scores. A position-by-position breakdown is below.

QB (Score: 3.70 / Rank 9th out of 19) – Three of the ten plays finished with an “A” or better score including “A+” grades from Matt Stafford and Philip Rivers.

RB (Score: 3.25 / Rank 15th out of 19) – A pretty solid score but the experts fared well at the position. Three “A+” grades came from Alvin Kamara, Carlos Hyde and Dion Lewis.

WR (Score: 2.07 / Rank 10th out of 19) – It was bit of a struggle at the WR spot for everyone. Six of the 15 Consensus plays finished with a failing grade while an “A+” from Keenan Allen was the lone bright spot.

TE (Score: 2.00 / Rank 10th out of 18) – Six of the nine Consensus plays finished with a failing grade though it still finished in the middle of the pack. Jack Doyle provided the lone “A+” grade among the group.

D/ST (Score: 3.18 / Rank 5th out of 18) – A nice finish to the season for the Consensus at the D/ST spot. Of the 11 plays, three finished “A” or better including an “A+” from the Cowboys who shut out the Eagles.

Head of the Class – Week 17

Each week I will highlight a few of the top experts for the week. Here are the experts that deserve a “gold star” for Week 17 based on their cumulative grades for all players they touted this week.

#1) DK Playbook (Score: 5.36) went out with a bang for 2017. Six of their 11 plays finished “A” or better including five “A+” scores from Jameis Winston, Carlos Hyde, Chris Godwin, George Kittle and the Titans D/ST. If you went with DK’s plays they likely had low ownership numbers as they were the lone experts to roster Winston, Godwin, Kittle and the Titans.

#2) Sportsline (Score: 4.89) threw out a solid optimizer for the final week. Four “A+” grades from Kamara, Hyde, Keenan Allen and Jack Doyle boosted the score.

#3) ProFootballFocus (Score: 4.19) scored an “A” or better with seven of their 16 plays to cap the season. PFF scored “A+” grades from Rivers, Dion Lewis, Keenan Allen and Golden Tate. PFF was the lone expert site to roster Golden Tate and his “A+” grade.

Top Value – DK Playbook (3.76 DK Pts/$1000) took the “Top Value” title this week.

Head of the Class – Week 17 (By Position)

Sometimes there is just that one class that you excel in. In this section, I will highlight who the top experts were at each position for Week 17.

QB – Rotowire (10.00) played Matt Stafford and his “A+” score with their only pick.

RB – Sportsline (6.67) picked up “A+” grades from Alvin Kamara and Carlos Hyde to top the RB spot.

WR – ProFootballFocus (5.40) made the most of the final week with three of their five plays scoring “A” or better including “A+” grades from Keenan Allen and Golden Tate. They were the lone site to recommend Tate.

TE – Sportsline (10.00) garnered an “A+” grade with Jack Doyle as their lone selection.

DST – DailyFantasyNerd (10.00) utilized the Cowboys for their “A+” grade to top the list.

Study Time – Week 17

If we are going to give a gold star to the top experts of the week, we also need to determine which experts might need to put in some extra study time to pull up those grades. Here are the Week 17 experts that didn’t make the grade this week.

  • DailyFantasySportsRankings (Score: 2.28) found the bottom-2 once again in Week 17. Ten of their 18 plays finished “D” or worse.
  • Daily Overlay – Value Index (Score: 1.14) had another rough week to cap the season. Of Stephen’s seven plays, he scored four “C” grades and three failing grades.

Extra Credit – Week 17

In this section, I will look to give some extra credit to experts that received an A+ grade for a player where they were the lone expert to recommend. Week 17 extra credit goes to the following:

A+ – Jameis Winston (DK Playbook)
A+ – Chris Godwin (DK Playbook)
A+ – George Kittle (DK Playbook)
A+ – Golden Tate (ProFootballFocus)
A+ – Titans D/ST (DK Playbook)

Head of the Class – Season

Here are the top experts in the Overall Standings after Week 17 of the season, including which site has provided the top DraftKings points per $1000 of salary. We had a switcharoo at the top as FTA once again provided no picks.

#1) FantasyTeamAdvice (Score: 3.70) once again did not make any selections this week. Somewhat of a crappy way to lay claim to the season-long title but they are our 2017 NFL expert champ.

#2) Rotowire (Score: 3.69) could not hold on to the lead they maintained for most of the season. The .02 drop in score slots them ever so slightly behind FTA.

#3) ProFootballFocus (Score: 3.54) had a top-3 finish for Week 17 which was enough to propel them into a top-3 finish for the season. Congrats to PFF for their .03 jump in score which hopped them above GoingFor2 by the narrowest of margins.

#4) GoingFor2 (Score: 3.53) slid back .02 in score and it was enough to drop them into 4th place for the season. Still a great year overall.

#5) DailyRoto (Score: 3.41) hung on to a top-5 spot in the season-long standings. Despite a small step back in score, DailyRoto still had a comfortable margin between themselves and the next closest expert.

Top Value – DK Playbook (2.96 DK Pts/$1000) ran shop in the value department all season long. That culminated with an absolutely ridiculous plethora of value in Week 17 which you saw above.

The DailyOverlay Industry Consensus finished the season in 19th place in the overall standings out of 21 experts with a DO score of 2.96.
