Fading Chris Sale on Friday didn’t work out as well as I had hoped, but it wasn’t a complete disaster either as my recommendations of Rich Hill, Gio Gonzalez and Justin Verlander were all solid posting at least 20 DraftKings points at significant salary cap savings. We start off this week with a light eight-game main slate that is lacking a dominant ace.

Ace

Kenta Maeda (FD-$8,800 / DK-$9,700)

There are no top ace pitchers that stand out tonight. I do like Drew Smyly, especially on FanDuel for only $9,100 but feel he is a high risk, high reward option that is more suited for GPPs pitching against the Blue Jays in Toronto. So my ace choice tonight is Maeda who does not have as much upside but also doesn’t have near the downside that Smyly has. Maeda has been solid this season with a 2.30 ERA and 7.95 K/9. Tonight he pitches at home against an Angels offense that has the 10th lowest wOBA (.305) and 2nd worst ISO (.127) against righties this season. Maeda also has a strong chance for a win with Matt Shoemaker on the mound for the Angels. I prefer Maeda as a Cash game option today.

Value

Adam Conley (FD-$8,300 / DK-$8,200)

I feel that I have been a little bit of an “Adam Conley whisperer” so far this season, recommending him for his near no-hitter start and fading him when he was a popular play facing the Brewers again in his last start (4 IP, 4 runs). Well, tonight I am back “in” on Conley in his matchup against the Phillies. The Phillies rank in the bottom 10 in K%, ISO and wOBA against lefties this season. Conley is one of my top options to use in both Cash games and GPPs tonight due to his price and upside.

Jerad Eickhoff (FD-$6,700 / DK-$6,700)

I also have an interest in Eickhoff, the starting pitcher opposing Conley tonight. With a 7.5 Vegas run total for the game and a close line both pitchers should be able to perform well and have a chance for the win. Eickhoff hasn’t pitched too well over his last five starts allowing at least three runs in every outing after only allowing a total of five runs in his first three starts this season. However, tonight he will be pitching at home where he has performed better so far this season, albeit in a limited sample size, with a 2.25 home ERA compared to 6.53 on the road. Eickhoff could be a #2 pitching option on two-pitcher sites and I wouldn’t mind using both him on Conley in the same lineup.

Darkhorse

Robbie Ray (FD-$6,000 / DK-$6,800)

Ray faces a Yankees team that has had trouble with lefties this season with a .121 ISO (6th worst) and .296 wOBA (7th worst). Ray will be pitching at home tonight which isn’t necessarily a good thing as he has been worse at home over his career in hitter-friendly Arizona but the Diamondbacks will be facing a Yankees pitcher, Chad Green, making his major league debut. Ray is a not a safe play but has some upside that makes him an interesting, cheap GPP option tonight.
