Adam Conley made me nervous last night when he struck out nine Tigers over 4 1/3 shutout innings to start the game before finally falling apart allowing five runs without recording another out. I thought I might have to give up my “Adam Conley Whisperer” title but I guess I still have it.

Today’s column will focus on the small eight-game night slate where there are not many high upside strikeout pitchers on the hill.

Ace

Danny Salazar (FD-$10,700 / DK-$12,200)

I prefer Salazar over Max Scherzer today with a lower salary and easier matchup. Salazar has been very consistent this season allowing more than three runs once out of 14 starts. He should be able to continue his solid production against the Braves who have been shut down by Indians pitchers in each of the first two games of the series. The only potential concern for Salazar is his increase walks over his recent starts could limit how deep he goes into the game. Salazar is a good Cash and GPP option on both sites.

Value

Carlos Martinez (FD-$9,000 / DK-$9,200)

Martinez comes in a close third in my rating system behind Salazar and Scherzer tonight making him a viable Cash game option over both of the Aces due to his low “blow up” chances. Martinez has done a great job limiting home runs during his career allow just 0.56 HR/9 while the Royals rank 2nd worst in ISO (.131) against righties this season. Martinez will also have a good chance for a win as one of the bigger favorites of the night.

Jake Peavy (FD-$7,200 / DK-$6,600)

Not a lot of big strikeout potential on the slate so I’ll roll with Peavy has my second Value option. Peavy has pitched very well recently with a 1.42 ERA over his last three starts. He will be pitching at home where he has had more success over the last couple of season and faces an Athletics’ team that ranks in the bottom five in ISO and wOBA against righties this season. Peavy is a solid Cash game #2 pitching option on two-pitcher sites.

Darkhorse

Brock Stewart (FD-$6,000 / DK-$5,200)

Stewart will be making his big league debut tonight for the Dodgers in Milwaukee. While I don’t know much about Stewart he has dominated in the minors this season over 14 starts from Single-A up through Triple-A with a 1.47 ERA and 99 strikeouts and just 14 walks in 86 innings. Stewart will face a Brewers’ team that has the worst strikeout percentage (26.1%) against righties this season. Stewart is a great GPP option and may even be worth a look in Cash games on two-pitcher sites.
