The previous two weeks were phenomenal from the experts so I guess you can say they were due for a bad one. Boy, was it ever a bad one. Just an all around crappy week from the experts but things continue to tighten up in our overall standings as well as our positional leaderboards. GoingFor2 hopped back atop the season-long standing with a nice week and some faltering from the couple experts in front of them. As always, you can see how all the experts are doing by checking out NFL Expert Standings.

Be sure to come back each week for a review of the Industry Consensus picks highlighting the top (and bottom) grades for the week and season from the experts we are tracking. For Week 8 we tracked and graded 21 sets of experts picks including the Industry Consensus list.

On to the Week 8 grades, class is in session!

Consensus Recap – Week 8

A ton of picks from the Consensus in Week 8! Fifty-five in total brought home a 15th place finish and an overall Daily Overlay score of 2.33. That included 21 failing grades! A position-by-position breakdown is below.

QB (Score: 2.25 / Rank 12th out of 21) – A big step in the wrong direction at the QB spot though the finish was higher. Three failing grades out of eight total plays. The lone bright spot was an “A+” grade from Russell Wilson.

RB (Score: 3.54 / Rank 10th out of 21) – A pretty decent output at RB for the Consensus. Three of the 13 plays scored “A” or better including “A+’s” from Zeke and Shady McCoy.

WR (Score: 1.30 / Rank 6th out of 21) – Wow! What an absolutely putrid week at the WR position from the experts. A 1.30 score from the Consensus was the 6th best at the position! Half of the 20 Consensus plays scored a failing grade.

TE (Score: 2.22 / Rank 9th out of 20) – Five of the nine plays finished with a failing grade. Jack Doyle and his “A+” score was the bright spot.

D/ST (Score: 3.60 / Rank 9th out of 19) – An “A+” score from the Eagles really helped the cause here.

Head of the Class – Week 8

Each week I will highlight a few of the top experts for the week. Here are the experts that deserve a “gold star” for Week 8 based on their cumulative grades for all players they touted this week.

#1) Rotoballer (Score: 4.50) tops the list in Week 8 with a score that wouldn’t have even cracked the top-3 last week. Two “A+” scores (Russell Wilson, Eagles D/ST) out of six picks.

#2) Sportsline (Score: 4.33) had a solid week with three of their nine selections scoring an “A+” grade. The “A+’s” came from Zeke, Shady and Jack Doyle.

#3) GoingFor2 (Score: 3.88) rounds out the top-3 for the week. Not a score that would typically land you in that spot but it was a down week. Two “A+” grades from Shady McCoy and Jack Doyle boosted the score.

Top Value – Rotoballer (3.20 DK Pts/$1000) took the “Top Value” title this week.

Head of the Class – Week 8 (By Position)

Sometimes there is just that one class that you excel in. In this section, I will highlight who the top experts were at each position for Week 8.

QB – Daily Overlay – Value Index (10.00) played Russell Wilson with his lone QB pick.

RB – Sportsline (10.00) rostered Zeke and McCoy with their two RB selections.

WR – DailyFantasyNerd (3.00) was the best of the worst in Week 8. Even with half of their four picks failing, an “A+” from Jamison Crowder helped DFN top the list. DFN was the lone site to play Crowder.

TE – RotoGrinders Lineup Builder, Rotowire, GoingFor2 (10.00) all scored “A+” grades with their lone selections. RG Lineup Builder and GoingFor2 played Doyle while Rotowire played Jimmy Graham. Rotowire was the lone expert site to recommend Graham.

DST – Rotoballer (10.00) played the Eagles for their “A+” grade.

Study Time – Week 8

If we are going to give a gold star to the top experts of the week, we also need to determine which experts might need to put in some extra study time to pull up those grades. Here are the Week 8 experts that didn’t make the grade this week.

  • Daily Overlay – Hot Sheet (Score: 1.96) had a rough week. Eleven of Brad’s 25 plays scored a “D” or worse.
  • DailyFantasySportsRankings (Score: 1.83) found the bottom rung of the ladder once again. Five of their 12 selections scored a “D” or worse.

Extra Credit – Week 8

In this section, I will look to give some extra credit to experts that received an A+ grade for a player where they were the lone expert to recommend. Week 8 extra credit goes to the following:

A+ – Jimmy Graham (Rotowire)
A+ – Jamison Crowder (DailyFantasyNerd)
A+ – Cowboys D/ST (FantasyGuruElite)

#3) Sportsline (Score: 3.71) took a solid .09 step forward to take a leap back into the top-3 for the year.

#4) FantasyTeamAdvice (Score: 3.64) had a rough go of it in Week 8. Their .17 drop off took them down a couple notches.
