Week 3 was tough on the expert clan. Basically everyone took a step backwards in their overall score (should have loaded up on Jags…ha!!). It’s a bounceback week for them and I’m sure they’ll get back on track. The Consensus continues to sit towards the bottom of the overall standings; however, there were some bright spots for the Consensus this week. I’ll begin posting the Ownership Percentage article moving forward. Always looking for reader feedback so drop me a note in the comments!

Be sure to come back each week for a review of the Industry Consensus picks highlighting the top (and bottom) grades for the week and season from the experts we are tracking. For Week 3 we tracked and graded 21 sets of experts picks including the Industry Consensus list.

On to the Week 3 grades, class is in session!

Consensus Recap – Week 3

The Industry Consensus with a bounceback week climbed to a 12th place finish overall. Below is a position by position breakdown of how the Consensus fared.

QB (Score: 4.22 / Rank 12th out of 21) – A nice week at the QB spot for the Consensus highlighted by “A+” grades from Kirk Cousins, DeShone Kizer and Tom Brady.

RB (Score: 2.54 / Rank 4th out of 21) – The score was quite a bit lower than last week but the finish was way higher as the experts struggled at RB. “A+” grades from Chris Thompson and Kareem Hunt boosted the score.

WR (Score: 1.59 / Rank 15th out of 21) – A tough week at WR as ten of the 17 plays finished with a failing grade. AJ Green and his “A+” grade was the lone bright spot.

TE (Score: 4.29 / Rank 11th out of 21) – Another middle-of-the-road finish at TE for the Consensus. It was complete “feast or famine” with three “A+’s” and four failing grades.

D/ST (Score: 2.00 / Rank T-2nd out of 21) – The score was considerably lower but we’ll take a 2nd place tie anytime. Even with eight of 12 plays scoring failing grades, the Consensus out performed most experts.

Head of the Class – Week 3

Each week I will highlight a few of the top experts for the week. Here are the experts that deserve a “gold star” for Week 3 based on their cumulative grades for all players they touted this week.

#1) FantasyLabs (Score: 5.33) topped the list of experts for the week. Four of their nine plays finished with an “A+” grade. Cousins, Green, Zach Ertz and Jared Cook were the top performers.

#2) FantasyTeamAdvice (Score: 3.82) claimed a top-3 spot but with considerable dropoff from the #1 spot. Seven of their 17 plays scored an “A” or better including “A+” grades from Cousins, Kizer, Ertz, Gronk and the Chiefs D/ST.

#3) GoingFor2 (Score: 3.78) made nine total selections and pulled in three “A+” scores from Cousins, Green and Ertz.

Top Value – FantasyLabs (3.24 DK Pts/$1000) also scored the “Top Value” slot. When you runaway with the week like they did, it’s no surprise they took this honor, too.

Head of the Class – Week 3 (By Position)

Sometimes there is just that one class that you excel in. In this section, I will highlight who the top experts were at each position for Week 3.

QB – GoingFor2, DailyFantasyNerd (10.00) both played Cousins to top the QB spot.

RB – DK Playbook (6.50) scored an “A+” and “B” grades from Chris Thompson and Duke Johnson, Jr.

WR – FantasyLabs (6.50) got an “A+” and “B” from Green and Rishard Matthews.

TE – Rotowire, FantasyTeamAdvice, Sportsline (10.00) all perfected the TE spot this week. FTA was the lone expert of the trio to make more than one play at the position.

DST – FantasyPros (2.50) highlighted the rough week at D/ST with a 2.5 to win the week. They made four plays and three of them finished with a failing grade.

Study Time – Week 3

If we are going to give a gold star to the top experts of the week, we also need to determine which experts might need to put in some extra study time to pull up those grades. Here are the Week 3 experts that didn’t make the grade this week.

  • FantasyCPR (Score: 1.21) had another rough week overall with ten of their 14 plays scoring a failing grade.
  • Rotoballer (Score: 1.00) also finds the “Study Time” for the second week in a row. Six of their seven plays scored a “D” or worse including four failing grades.

Extra Credit – Week 3

In this section, I will look to give some extra credit to experts that received an A+ grade for a player where they were the lone expert to recommend. Week 3 extra credit goes to the following:

A+ – David Njoku (Fantasy Alarm)
A+ – Geronimo Allison (FantasyPros)
A+ – Texans D/ST (FantasyPros)
A+ – Brandin Cooks (DailyFantasyCafe)
A+ – TY Hilton (DailyFantasyCafe)
A+ – Charles Clay (Daily Overlay – Hot Sheet)
